I love the idea of looking at life in four-year increments. The big picture can sometimes be so big that I get overwhelmed, so I think I'm going to try this four-year POV.
One day a woman will lead us. It reminds me of Rep. Pat Schroeder from Colorado who wrote a book entitled 24 Years of Housework and the Place is Still a Mess, about her time in congress. I think it's going to take women to clean up our current mess! Big hugs and I stand with you in women's rights and women's leadership.
I'm glad you like the idea of looking at life in four-year increments. It's just one more way to make a timeline of your life during political convention time, or anytime, I guess.
We definitely need more women in leadership. There are a lot of messes to clean up in congress - and elsewhere! I'm hoping I still live to see a woman in the top job at the White House. I am starting to wonder...
Hugs back and thank you for standing with me. Women need to stand together even more this election cycle. Thank you for commenting, too. I appreciate you.
Hi Nancy, what a great post about seeing life in four-year increments! I've never seen life that way, but it really offers a great perspective of where we've come from, and all that we've endured.
You're right: historically, despite our differences (Republican vs. Democrat vs. Independent, etc.), we always seemed on the same side. On the side of the U.S.
Unfortunately this is no longer true. Only one presidential candidate seems pro-U.S. The other is pro-dictatorship.
One of the things conventionwise that stood out to me was years ago, when Barack Obama was not yet president, but he gave a rousing speech at the DNC. I didn't know he'd eventually be our president, but I was transfixed on the television screen and knew he was special.
I am very disgusted with the GOP, and what I can't believe is they have forgotten that they are public servants elected to represent us. Instead, many represent corruption and allowing a certain orange man to get his own way. No checks and balances during his presidency. Politics in the US has never been great, but now it's a bonafide circus.
In 2009, I brought my daughter to the US from China, painfully knowing I was taking her away from her Chinese culture (no matter how I've tried over the years to give her a sense of culture, she's still lost it). But I felt that with Barack Obama at the helm, my daughter would only know a black president at the beginning of her life, and that this was wonderful.
However the tide has since turned, and I am afraid she will now enjoy fewer rights than I've had.
Personally, I'm worn out, tired, angry, and just feel hopeless. I'm glad at least we have a female VP, and I really was for Hillary Clinton, but it was not to be. The years Trump was vying for the presidency, his four-year presidency, his refusal to concede and incitement of the violence in the Capitol, followed by Trump criminal news throughout Biden's presidency, the Supreme Court's corruption, and the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, among other things have worn me down.
As a side note, when Biden and Harris won, I shared this historic moment of a woman VP with my daughter. She thinks Harris is sharp, and that she is well-dressed. :)
You are not alone in feeling tired, worn out, worn down, disgusted, and angry. I don't yet feel hopeless, but if Trump wins, that might change.
It's so sad that our daughters and granddaughters have fewer rights than you and I have had. My family has seen the painful ramifications of the overturning of Roe and subsequent state law regulations kicking in. Long story. Perhaps for another day.
Feels like a long time ago that Obama was in the White House. So much has changed. I'm glad your daughter is a Harris fan! It's great girls have such a wonderful role model. It's great for all of us!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings so candidly. I appreciate you. As always.
Hi Nancy. I suppose the election that stands out in my mind is 2016. The yr Trump beat Hillary and a month later I was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer. If it hadn't been for the birth of a new grandson that year I would call 2016 a wash out! But rather than dwell on the negative, 1980 was a good election with Ronald Reagan's win. Unfortunately, also the yr my mother passed away from BC. So I guess every 4 yrs has been a roller coaster. The next 4 yrs are looking stressful and uncertain but I'm still hoping for the best!
Yeah, that 2016 election was a standout for all the wrong reasons. I remember feeling so disappointed and sad. But yet, Hillary conceded almost immediately. Something Trump couldn't bring himself to do. And gosh, one month later you were diagnosed. Yikes. What a year indeed. Thank goodness that grandson arrived when he did. And Reagan's win is always tied to your mother's death. That's so sad. Without a doubt, the next four years are looking uncertain and stressful, but I am still hoping for the best too.
Thank you for reading and sharing a few thoughts. I appreciate you. x

Update. Kamala Harris will help energize our younger voters and re-energize our older ones. Politics is fun again, thanks to Kamala
Hi Mark,
Yes, I totally agree. Harris is energizing all of us. The joy she exudes is contagious. I think she's going to do great.
Well said!
Thank you, Liz. I appreciate your feedback.
